Print

Print.  Authorized Users may print a reasonable portion of the Licensed Materials for the purposes of research or private study and not for commercial use.

Reasonable Portion.  Is an amount of the Licenced Materials which enables efficient use for the purposes of research or private study and not for commercial use.  Systematic or excessive downloading from any online resource, using an agent, robot, or manually, is forbidden.   "Systematic" or "excessive" downloading is defined as, but not limited to, a deliberate attempt to copy or distribute a whole or significant part of an electronic resource.

Commercial Use.  Use for the purposes of monetary reward by means of sale, resale, loan, transfer, hire or other form of exploitation of the Licensed Materials.  Cost recovery for printed course packs is not considered commercial use.

Download.Retrieve and save digital information from the Licenced Materials for the purposes of research or private study and not for commercial use.

E-Reserves/LMS

Learning Management System, Electronic Reserve or Readings Online.  The right to use electronic copies of materials (e.g. book chapters, journal articles) made and stored on the LMS by the University for use by students in connection with specific courses of instruction offered by the University to its students.

Links Only.  Cannot upload a copy of the document (e.g. book chapters, journal articles) to the LMS, however you can include a link to the Licenced Materials which requires users to authenticate with their University username and password.

Scholarly Sharing

Scholarly Sharing.  Distribute a copy of individual articles or items of the Licensed Materials in print or electronic form to other Authorized Users or to other individual scholars collaborating with Authorized Users but only for the purposes of research and private study and in no case for resale or commercial purposes.

Authorised Users have the right to use, with appropriate credit, figures, tables and brief excerpts from the Licensed Materials in the Authorised User's own scientific, scholarly and educational works.

Course Pack

Course Packs, Reading Packs or Course Notes.   A collection or compilation of printed materials (e.g. book chapters, journal articles) assembled by members of staff of the University for use by students in a class for the purposes of instruction.

Walk-in Users Walk-ins.  Patrons not affiliated with the University of Melbourne who are physically present at the Library using designated public access terminals.
Interlibrary Loans

Inter-Library Loans.  Provide to other libraries or academic institutions reasonable amounts of the Licensed Materials through interlibrary loan arrangements.

Perpetual Access

Perpetual Access.  For Library staff only. The right to permanently access the licensed materials in the same way as the Library would have previously retained print copies on library shelves.
