Summary Eddie Trottman grew up with guys like Larry Louprino in the part of Long Island that's not the Gold Coast, or South Shore, or any shore. They didn't live on the water, take family vacations, or go away to college. They weren't black, Jewish, rich, or even middle-class. They did their time in school until they graduated and then they went to work: Larry for his mobster uncle and Eddie slaving at the supermarket. Sleazy canal dives and flaking amusement parks are where they hang out. Their girlfriends will pretty much do anything for them, but Larry takes it too far and gets himself and Eddie in a major jam that brings in the law.
