Summary An early example of modern, expressionistic drama--explained in a documentary section of the program--this anarchic political parody employs many non-realistic theatrical conventions to depict man in a distorted and exaggerated fashion in order to make fun of ambition, nobility, idealism and government. This condensed video version captures the outrageous tone of the play which was a major influence on the theatre of the absurd.
