Summary The film takes its title from a 1972 book written by anthropologist Edmund Carpenter and explores the positive and negative ways in which media, and film in particular, interact with indigenous cultures. Carpenter and other filmmakers, including Adelaide de Menil, discuss interactions of media and culture in Papua New Guinea and the Canadian Arctic.
