Summary Looks at the lives and beliefs of people in three families from an area in the province of Shanxi, in China ; where people live in cave houses, called yoadong. A new yaodung is to be dug for the son of the cavemaster, the methods and rituals of the building process are shown. Another cave dweller is a miner, who plans to build a modern house with a roof ; and the last segment shows the marraige of a Moslem girl, who then moves from a cave to her new husband's house.
