Notes Teldec was founded in Germany in 1950 as a co-operation between Telefunken and Decca Records. (The name TELDEC derives from the first three letters of both labels). Over its long history the label has been home to many great artists including conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim, Spanish tenor José Carreras, conductor Nikolaus Harnoncourt, the late world famous cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, violin virtuoso Maxim Vengerov and Dutch keyboard player and conductor Ton Koopman. Highlights include both the audio and video recordings of the 1991 Kupfer Bayreuth Ring cycle featuring Sir John Tomlinson and conducted by Daniel Barenboim, still considered the definitive version available. The catalogue also boasts the pioneering early music label Das Alte Werk, established as part of Teldec in 1958.
