Summary Climate science is changing fast, with both climate variability and climate change driving the need to develop adaptation capability. This trend is, in turn, driving a need for physical climate scientists to expand their roles. The goal of this work is to draw on extensive experience of those involved in climate adaptation efforts in the U.S. and Australia to provide insight into the expanding roles that need to be served by physical climate scientists in our respective counties and more globally.
