Summary This documentary examines the problem of obesity - how and why it has become a pandemic, not confined to poor or wealthy countries, but reaching all corners of the world's population. While millions suffer from hunger, there are over a billion overweight people. Both are a sign of malnutrition. In this programme, Barry Popkin presents his research on the world's changing eating habits and the consequences of nutrition disorders on human kind. Takes a close look at the outbreak of obesity in developing countries, especially where obesity is increasingly becoming a problem, such as China, Egypt and Mexico. Cases of obesity in China has doubled in the last ten years, jumping from 30 to 60 million. Egypt has a record 60% of women who are obese; and Mexico's obesity figures match those of the U.S. Examines how globalisation and multinational food companies have contributed to the outbreak and increase in obesity across all ages and genders, in urban areas, particularly. Looks also at how food companies will be forced to take a more active role in assisting in the reduction of world wide obesity. Health experts and critics have called for involvement in a world-wide movement to tackle the problem of obesity and to create a healthy planet.
