Summary It all began fifty years ago, when a group of five scientists pioneered into a miniscule world too small for the naked eye. Their research led to the discovery of DNA. They showed how certain family traits are hereditary, capable of passing on from parents to their children. In the 1950s, two unknown scientists at Cambridge proclaimed that they had found the secret of life. Meanwhile, in London, two scientists were deep into the subject of DNA, as well. These competitors in the DNA race were Jim Watson and Francis Crick of the University of Cambridge vs. Rosalind Franklin and Maurice Wilkins of King's College, University of London. While, in the background was a formidable American, who used a different approach in his study.
Profiles these pioneers, examining their research and approaches in the context of their personalities and environment, as well as, their relationships with colleagues, and how they combined to impact on their contributions. Takes viewers back fifty years ago to appreciate their work. Includes interviews with some of these scientists today for their stories. Uses computer simulation/graphics to illustrate the concepts.
