Editors: Ute Meta Bauer, Anca Rujoiu.
Summary Becoming Palm is the outcome of a conversation between two friends, artist Simryn Gill and anthropologist Michael Taussig, addressing the complexities of palm oil and “the enormous transformations, human, and ecological, that this crop engenders” (Taussig) in two disparate geographical locations, Southeast Asia and South America. The book reprints lectures by Michael Taussig ("A Test Case: The Plantation as Violence and Art") and Simryn Gill ("Becoming Palm: A Letter to Michael Taussig"), presented at NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore on the 13th January 2016, following Simryn Gill's exhibition 'Hugging the Shore', curated by Ute Meta Bauer, Founding Director, and Anca Rujoiu, Curator, Exhibitions.
