Summary This paper addresses the question of how the University of Melbourne should develop its scholarly information and technologies services and infrastructure to achieve its research, learning, teaching and knowledge transfer aspirations over the next decade. It reviews significant changes in the environment that are creating an always-connected, visual society; scholarly practice that is increasingly cross-disciplinary and collaborative, blurring the boundaries between a researcher and a learner; the disruptive nature of much technology-enabled change; and the expected contributions of universities to local, national and global society. Questions are raised regarding the future of its scholarly information, infrastructures, spaces and research priorities, including making underlying research data available, libraries, and the Melbourne campus experience.
