Summary This is the story of a boy whose penis was burnt off, in a routine circumcision procedure, which went wrong. The electrical equipment, used by the doctor, malfunctioned and Bruce's entire penis was burnt off. As a result, he was raised as a girl for the first 14 years of his life. This is also the story of the psychologist, Dr. John Money, who treated him. Dr. Money, a renowned sexologist, has a radical theory that babies were born gender neutral and that it was nature, not nurture, which dictated their gender identity. He used the child to research his theory that any boy could be raised as a girl. Unknown to the Reimers, Dr. Money was using their misfortune to pursue his own scientific research into gender identity. But, the experiment went terribly wrong; and the lives of twin boys, Brian and Bruce Reimer ended tragically. This is a cautionary tale of what can happen when science denies humanity in a bid to prove a theory. Includes reconstruction of selected scenes of the saga; and interviews with the parents for eye-witness accounts and comments.
