Summary In The murder market, when "til death do us part" becomes more threat than vow, The Avengers go undercover at a marriage bureau where Steed sees Emma buried alive. Despite such grave dangers, they manage to exterminate the black widow at the centre of the treacherous wedding web. In A surfeit of H2O, when freak rainstorms drown locals in their own fields, villagers, fearing a return of the Great Flood, begin constructing an ark. Discovering that the cause is more diabolical than biblical, The Avengers soon rain on the perpetrator's parade. In The hour that never was, dogs and dead milkmen greet The Avengers when they visit Steed's war-time RAF base in Hamelin. Baffled by blackouts, Steed and Emma soon uncover an enemy agent's scheme to plant brainwashed saboteurs throughout England. But like a pair of Pied Pipers, The Avengers soon rid Hamelin of its rats. In Dial a deadly number, The Avengers investigate a new device called a "Bleeper" designed to help millionaire businessmen keep in touch, but used by an unscrupulous entrepreneur to "reach out and kill someone." In Man-eater of Surrey Green, when a man-eating intergalactic artichoke transplants a slew of eminent horticulturalists, Steed and Emma stalk the pernicious pod and cultivate a plan to uproot the wily weed. In Two's a crowd, when Russian agents employ a double of John Steed to infiltrate a defense conference, the Russians soon find out what the world now knows--there's no substitute for the original Avengers! In Too many Christmas trees, a brainwashing was the last thing Steed wanted for Christmas, yet he finds himself immersed in the role of Sydney Carton, with Emma playing Oliver Twist in this Dickens of a challenge for the Avengers.
