Summary By 1481 Granada was the last Islamic enclave in Catholic Spain, and Granada's last ruler, Boabdil, faced the might of the Spanish Royal Army, revitalized and equipped with modern artillery. The 11-year campaign for Granada marked the emergence of Spain as the major military power in Europe and signaled the end of Muslim power in Spain. It was one of the first campaigns in which artillery played a major role.
