Summary The resource sector boom in WA has created unprecedented demand for local engineering capability and engineering professionals. Demand for engineering professionals has also increased from many other sectors such as local government as the State experiences a rapid growth in population and the need to replace the State's ageing infrastructure. Many engineering-dependent sectors of the WA economy are experiencing a shortage of skilled workers and these shortages are expected to continue into the foreseeable future as the State's economy grows faster than the increase in numbers of engineering professionals. ue to the uncertainties over world growth, resource demand and other uncertainties, attempting to forecast the engineering capability and workforce requirements in 2020 will have little value. Instead, Engineers Australia has produced a vision of what it would like to see for Western Australia's engineering capability and professional engineering workforce in 2020.
