Summary This volume derives from a meeting in London in April 1987 and aims to highlight some of the recent advances in our knowledge of deltas and their economic significance. The first section considers the definition of a delta and emphasises the wide spectrum of deltaic and associated deposits. The next is devoted to subsurface and geophysical techniques. The third is based around general case studies of various deltaic systems. Petroleum- and gas-related case studies form the fourth part. The final section covers the coal-related case histories in deltaic settings.
