Artist's book. Concertina vol. in centre opening solander box with photographic lining papers. Printed front and back, text and images printed intaglio and relief. Printed on Magnani Acqueforti 3030.
Accompanied by CD of Marco Rosano's Stabat mater, performed by Andreas Scholl. CD has additional printed cover with the text "the universal soldier" repeated over it.
Summary The Stabat Mater is a chant dating from the 13th century. Its devotional fervour focuses on the suffering of the Virgin Mary at the foot of the cross. Human society is dogged by war and its consequences. The death toll rises. Mothers suffer the loss of their children like Mary suffered the loss of her Son. This work is dedicated to those women. - colophon.
