Summary |
The Stabat Mater is a chant dating from the 13th century. Its devotional fervour focuses on the suffering of the Virgin Mary at the foot of the cross. Human society is dogged by war and its consequences. The death toll rises. Mothers suffer the loss of their children like Mary suffered the loss of her Son.
