Notes Title page in red and black, with a title-page engraving of the arms of the Royal Society. Roman numeral date in title made with turned C's.
The first leaf bears an order to print on verso.: "By the council of the Royal Society ... Ordered, that the book written by John Evelyn ... be printed by John Martyn and James Allestry, printers to the said Society. Brouncker, P.R.S. Dat' die 3 Mens. Febr. ann 1663/4."
Errata to both pts.: p. [2] at end.
"Pomona" has separate dated title page, pagination, and register. It has an extra leaf inserted after C4 bearing "Animadversion".
"Kalendarium hortense", printed in red and black, has separate dated title page with "printed by J. Macock" in imprint; pagination and register are continuous with "Pomona". It has extra leaves inserted after F2 bearing "Sir Paul Neile's second paper", and after L4 bearing "Errata" for all three parts. Leaf H1 is cancelled.
"Pomona appears to have been intended strictly as an appendix to Sylva, and was never printed by itself"--Keynes, p. 148.

Local note Baill RB copy bound in contemporary blind tooled calf, the spine with raised bands and later manuscript title label, boards decorated with double rule border and an inner rectangular panel with corner ornaments; all edges sprinkled red; bound without pastedowns. There are two ownership inscriptions on verso of upper board (Wm. Clarke Ashby, 1820 [?] and W.C. Wells Clarke [?]) and another on recto of imprimatur leaf [John Nevill of Ashby ...[?]] It was presented by the Friends of the Baillieu Library.
